How Can I Help Your School?
The Cycle of Poor Sleep and Daytime Struggles
From experience I know how detrimentally a child’s attention, behaviour and mental health can be impacted by the quality of sleep. Children are expected to stay regulated, concentrate, sit still, complete tasks, play and socialise appropriately when they’re tired and exhausted. This is hard to comprehend. As adults we would struggle and would likely ‘ease the brakes’ that day. But children? They’re rarely given that option when they’re at school. This leads to higher levels of anxiety, masking, meltdowns and shutdowns which, results in another difficult night. It can feel like a never-ending cycle for parents.
No Where To Turn
Many children with autism and anxiety have targets within their education health care plans around sleep. These often highlight the difficulties the child has around sleeping and how it is affecting the child negatively. However, they rarely give families the support to carry out the necessary changes leaving parents and siblings left to struggle on their own, therefore negatively impacting their relationships, mental health and ability to ‘keep going’.

How Sleep Support in Schools Creates a Ripple Effect
The school packages are aimed at helping schools improve the lives of the families within their community. As well as that, they result in improved well-being and behaviour in school. Research has shown that a better night’s sleep leads to improved behaviour, improved attention and improved communication so tackling a child’s sleep will benefit many areas of their life. What’s more, it will improve the lives and relationships of those around the including siblings, staff and other pupils as well as the parents and their colleagues. It really has a ripple effect!
What does working with ‘Dreamy Bees For Schools’ look like?
Our work will focus on two areas. Firstly; daytime events (this is where much of the anxiety preventing sleep will occur). Secondly; the sleep issues themselves.
The family participate in a connection call and complete a complete a comprehensive questionnaire and sensory profile. Once the necessary information is received, a bespoke sleep plan is created. A time is then arranged to discuss the plan with the family. Additional information from school staff may be required, but this will be kept to a minimum.
Depending on the package chosen by the school, the parents will then have the knowledge to implement the changes. They either receive a follow up call 2 weeks later to see how they are getting on or up to 4 weeks of support through calls and/or messages to help them stay on track.
